Teen actress Lindsay Lohan has been hospitalized in Miami for treatment of a severe asthma attack, but she is expected to be released soon, her publicist says.
Lohan, 19, was admitted to the hospital last night after experiencing breathing difficulties in her hotel room in Miami, where she was spending the New Year's holiday with her family, spokeswoman Leslie Sloane said.
Sloane said the actress was "resting comfortably" while she remained under observation and hopefully would be discharged soon.
"She's OK. She starts work in about two weeks," the publicist said.
Sloane said Lohan has suffered from asthma since childhood, and she believed the actress was last hospitalised from the condition "when she was little".
Sloane said Lohan herself suggested in an email that Florida's high humidity may have contributed to her asthma attack, which was first reported by People magazine on its website.

According to ET online the attack was so bad that it caused a broken blood vessel in her neck, which prompted doctors to advise the actress to seek treatment at the hospital.
I'm sorry but how many times is the Lohan going to go into hospital and expect us to believe her excuses? First there was the "mystery illness" that kept her at Cedars Sinai where she miraculously emerged with enormous breasts. Then "exhaustion", then "food poisoning" and now "a severe asthma attack".
Everybody knows the only reasons celebs go into hospital are:
1)Because of an overdose
2) Plastic surgery
3)Rehab
So we can either expect Lindsay to look less cracked out when she is released..or she will have her fourth pair of boobs in 12 months.
I love the fact that asthma was chosen even though Lindsay could out-smoke Colin Farrell. I bet this is how the conversation right before she was admitted went:
